A Fannie Flagg Day

I stayed home sick again today. I hate a lingering cold. It's likely my own fault. When I feel better I do goofy things like rake leaves outside when it isn't warm... I hope the congestion breaks soon, I'm tired of coughing.

Today has had many Fannie Flagg influences. While chatting online this morning, I ended up watching Fried Green Tomatoes on cable. There are some good moments in that movie. It certainly makes you wonder if the secret of good barbeque is in the sauce.

After dinner, I finally popped in the "Best of Match Game" DVD. Wow... Brett Sommers looks old in the extras, but there are some funny moments in the shows, including a few with Fannie as a panelist. I often wonder if the censors would let Match Game on the air during the day now.

They thought it was too dirty, too urban. Oscar was too grumpy, Cookie Monster too ADD, Bert too grumpy and they didn't like the interaction between adults and children. Basically it wasn't Barney enough for kids today. God knows what they'd say about the Electric Company.

I read that article and posted on it a bit back. The other two things that they had issue with that stood out to me were Cookie's poor eating habits (oh please...) and the touchy feely stuff where a child would go home with a stranger off the street... back then I guess they only had to worry about bad cookies and milk at strangers houses :P
