The weekend was fairly low key. Just didn't feel like doing much, but the weather was nice so I did get out in it a bit more. In the highlight department...
  • I finished Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Saturday evening. Such an amazing book, I read all day Saturday, including a few hours at the local park on a bench. There are some surprising revelations and some more minor characters get some highlight moments. I'm sad to see it end, but thought is supplied a great deal of closure.
  • I watched a nice horror flick called Session 9. An interesting movie about a group of hazardous waste removal experts who clean out the asbestos in a closed mental hospital. Naturally, spooky things happen. On the bad side, it stars David Caruso, of whom I'm not a big fan. On the good side, it stars a very handsome daddy-bearish Scot named Peter Mullen, whose accent makes me melt a bit. The movie was recommended by a British bear with whom I've recently started chatting.
  • The house across the street has been rented by some local college students and one of their buddies keeps parking his car in front of my mailbox. If the mailman can't pull up to the mailbox, he has to skip me. Well, I saw this jerk's car there again on Saturday (NO MAIL DELIVERED -- a man needs his Netflix dammit!). After knocking on the door of the house across the street (no answer), the jerk owner finally appeared, so I went out to confront him. I very kindly asked him not to park there and explained why. I also explained to him that per the city ordinance, it's a $100 fine if he gets ticketed. The latter part caught his attention as most college students are poor. He promised not to do it again. We will see....

"I watched a nice horror flick called Session 9. "

This has become one of my favorite horror films in the past several years. one of the things that really added to the overall creepiness was the fact that they actually shot the entire thing at Danvers State Hospital. That place was so haunted that even H.P. Lovecraft loosely based "At The Mountains of Madness" on it.

I saw the "Making of.." extra on the DVD. I didn't realize it was a real place until then. I like the location, it really does set the proper mood for it. I may have to buy this one eventually.

Hmmm. I love horror movies, and there haven't been enough good ones recently. I'll have to check it out. :)

As much as I hate to say it, most of the really good horror movies I've found lately have been smaller independent flicks as opposed to the big name films. I think most of the latter are just splattering gorefests, while the indy market has to rely on plot, acting and atmosphere.

I think you'll enjoy it :)

the mailman SKIPS you?
I don't think that's USPS policy--to not deliver mail if it can't be delivered from the vehicle. Certainly shouldn't be.

Actually this is what my mail man told me point blank. He technically isn't supposed to get out of the truck to deliver mail, except for large packages. If the box is blocked, he can go by it. I understand the rationale, the mailboxes, by city ordinance, are not supposed to be blocked by cars during the day.

My mail man is a nice guy and I don't think he'd tell me this out of laziness.

I'm so used to dense, residential areas downtown (houses converted into multi-family dwellings, townhouses, apartment complexes, etc.) where there are mailboxes on the front porch or the entrance to the complex...seems weird to me to not have a postal guy actually walkin' around the neighborhood. No way to check out the packages if they don't get out of the truck! :-)

First off always up for finding new and actaully good horror movies so I'll look for this one try to check it out sometime...

Also what a jackass, that douchebad college kid needs to get a ticket if he does it again I'd say call someone to ticket his inconsiderate ass or have him towed...

I plan on calling the police for a ticket if I catch him at it again. Prior to having my new neighbors, it rarely ever happened. I'd like to give the college guys the benefit of the doubt as being nice guys, but their friends are starting to annoy me.
