Goodbye to My Childhood Home

kybearfuzzI spoke to my mom today. She told me that our old house was torn down and removed yesterday. I knew it was coming. My brother had arranged to have it done, as the city had condemned the structure.
When I was 14, my dad had a permanently debilitating stroke and the money dried up pretty quick due to his lack of work and medical bills. While the house was never in the best of shape (it survived two floods in the 50's), it was home. Without the money to keep it up though, it fell apart quickly. My folks moved out of the house back in the late 90's and it had been abandoned since.
It feels very strange to know that a large piece of my personal history is no more. So many memories in that little house. My brother asked if I was coming home this weekend, but I didn't feel the need to see it done. I likely would have cried if I had. It's bad enough that I foot the $2,000 cost for it as my siblings "just don't have it right now"... as usual...
