Just a catch up post of sorts, I'm in a holding pattern due to a power outage somewhere:
  • Saturday night was movie night with the Cincinnati Movie Bears, watching Rob Zombie's Halloween. I'd seen it already, but it was fun feeling my friend Jay jump in his seat. Not a bad flick if you judge it on its own, lots of gore and too many boobies flopping about. The original is still better, but the movie was fun with the guys.
  • Dating life sucks. I'm taking a break from that altogether. No face pic, no date. I'm tiring of men who send a pic only to discover it's old and the name they posted isn't their real one. Geez.. I thought we were adults here. Other things on this topic aren't up for discussion right now.
  • I got a movie on Netflix that I just loved called Breakfast on Pluto. It stars Cillian Murphy as the travestite love child of a priest and a housekeeper who just survives day to day in 1970's Ireland. He looks frighteningly good as a woman and does an amazing job. The movie is sectioned like chapters in a book (as it's based on one). My favorite is "Kitten Saves the World," which involves a dream sequence, a leather catsuit, and a bottle of Chanel No. 5 that causes enemies to fall. Many folks don't like it according to the Netflix reviews, but I thought it was very entertaining overall. My copy from Amazon should be here soon.
  • Britney and the VMA's -- while it surprised me how bad her performance was, it wasn't nearly as bad as Sarah Silverman's commentary. I just don't think she's funny. It came across as mean and cruel.
  • I feel the need to draw. Any suggestions?

There is a thin line between innocently acid wit and puerile fraternity coarse humour... I call that line Sarah Silverman. Sometimes she's funny, but most of the time i find her really obvious and predictable.

I share the same impression about breakfast in pluto. It was such a sweet tale, like some sort of mythological characters evolution, like a modern day fairy's struggle to be herself in a world that can't accept difference.

I should check out this Breakfast on Pluto thing. Hmm.

Draw me! ME! Something funny and amusing that I can use as my work desktop! :P It might even draw me out of the super funk.

I've never really found Sarah Silverman to be funny, but when I tell people that, I tend to get a lot of really strange looks like I'm high or something. Ah well.

I hear you on the dating life. I can't even remember the last time I had a good, honest-to-goodness date. April, maybe? :-(

Loved Breakfast on Pluto, it was a movie that came out of nowhere and pleasantly surprised me.

Didn't see Britney's performance, but sure have heard about it.

While I do agree that Rob Zombie's variation on "Halloween" is a fun flick, I do have an issue with the last half of the movie. I do appreciate that he had the sense to cast a REALLY big dude to play the adult Michael Myers, since you would realistically need some girth to cart around recently dead bodies and not get winded.

What issues do you have with the second half of the movie? I'm curious. I watched the original last night and it is by far a better movie. :)

We're in agreement that Carpentar's film is a far superior version. As entertaining as Zombie's film is, I never felt like the character of Laurie Strode was a real person -with the except of Michael's mother, this also applies to all of the female roles in the story. I think this may have a lot to do with the fact that the original Halloween was co-written by Debra Hill. Also, people do things in this remake far too ridiculous just to advance the plot: Dr. Loomis and the sheriff not having the common sense to set up a stakeout at Myers' old home, for instance.

words cannot describe how much I enjoyed Breakfast on Pluto. Knowing it was Cillian Murphy, I had a standing order for the DVD the day it came out. I loves me some Cillian, he is amazingly talented and awesome. *I'll stop gushing now* I'm glad I'm not alone in enjoying this movie.

* I don't think that I can watch the Halloween remake. The original is probably the only horror film that I've ever liked, and I can't bear the thought of it being turned into gore porn.

* I don't understand why people are dishonest with their profiles. Do they not realize that anyone they meet is going to notice that they don't look like their photo?

* I enjoyed Breakfast on Pluto when I saw it in Baton Rouge. Cillian Murphy looks so much better as a woman. I think that he needs to seriously consider sex reassignment surgery. Plus, it had Brendan Gleeson in it, who I find sexy in a Daddy sort of way.

* Sarah Silverman is funny sometimes, but I don't think she's the comedic genius that she's made out to be. The neighbors were the only thing worth watching on her TV show.

I watched the original Halloween again last night. It really is a better movie.

With his thin frame and big blue eyes, Cillian Murphy really looked great as Kitten in the movie. My copy arrived last night so I got to watch a few select scenes again (there is an icon coming I think). And yeah, Brendan Gleeson is very woofy :)

Howdy Marky
Maybe you should scrap the online dating scene alltogether. Get out on the town and meet folks the old fashioned way. That way there are no suprises.

Halloween, I loved the movie. I wish Zombie would stop casting his no tallent wife in all his movies. Some of the characters were totally over acting. But as far as scare factor, it was great.

Britney's performance sucked as we all seen, but so did the entire VMA's. MTV is not what it used to be, total bore!

Draw something non comic bookish. Let your imagination totally take over and do something beautifull, grand, and colorfull.
