kybearfuzz: (Movie Buff)

Sorry for the multiple postings. It just seems like the dam has broken open.

In late July and all through August, I've been hitting the movies regularly. I'll keep this relatively short:

The Simpsons Movie: Very cute, lots of actions, and full-frontal Bart. See it again? Sure. Buy it? Probably not.

Stardust: I really enjoyed the movie. I love Claire Danes and the guy who played the lead (his name escapes me) was very cute. Robert DeNiro makes the film, but I wont tell you why. See it again? Sure. Buy it? Maybe.

Hairspray: A night out with the Cincy Movie Bears and the visiting [livejournal.com profile] stripedtiger. A fun movie, but not one I'd have seen solo. See it again? Probably not. Buy it? Nah.

The Invasion: Nicole Kidman is great. The story moves fast, but it gives you the impression of how fast something like that would happen. Very creepy. See it again? Maybe. Buy it? Nah.

Underdog: My coworker Roy ribbed me good for seeing this one. I liked it, I thought the storyline was very good and I love Jason Lee voicing Underdog. See it again? Maybe. Buy it? Used, maybe.

Sunshine: Why this movie didn't get more press I have no idea, but it was really good. The story of a group of astronauts who venture to the dying sun to reignite it to save the world is a bit tired, but the cast did a fine job. The special effects are great. See it again? Yes. Buy it? Maybe.

I Know Who Killed Me: What the f@#k was I thinking? Stupid story, bad acting, and gore. Lindsay Lohan as a stripper who never takes her clothes off (thank heavens!) and hangs on to that pole as though she just needing it for support because the room is spinning. In her drunken mind, it probably was. See it again? Please, it made Cabin Fever look like Gone with the Wind. Buy it? Not even as a gag gift.

Skinwalkers: A low-budget werewolf movie. It's one of those that made me think, "you know, there is a decent movie in here somewhere." Decent acting by some. See it again? No. Buy it? No.

Superbad: Considering the reviews and some already made posts, I'm in the minority. I didn't like it. Some parts were funny, but it seemed like one long gag that wore thin. I wasn't McLovin it (sorry, bad pun). It was nice to see Seth Rogen again, he fills out a policeman's uniform well. He'd look good without it too :) See it again? No. Buy it? If it had shirtless Rogen maybe, but no.

Death at a Funeral: An indie British dark comedy about a family coming together for a father's funeral only to find out that dad had a big secret in a small gay dwarf lover who happens to show up wanting something to remember his love by. Throw in a spill of the coffin, some nudity, and a nervous fiance who took LSD by accident and it gets very entertaining. I highly recommend this one as it's one of funniest I've seen in a while. See it again? I'd love to. Buy it? Definite possibility.

I like "The Invasion," and I thought that Nicole Kidman was great in it. Then again, I think that she's great in everything.

She truly deserved that Oscar, she's very good in this movie :)

I tend to think that she's good in everything. The scene where she tells her son that she's not going to leave him was quite moving...much more than it would have been with just about any other actress in the role.
