kybearfuzz: (Dreaming)

Obviously, the spooky 1970's horror flicks I've been watching are influencing my dreams as last night's was a spooky one...

I was mowing the yard of a neighbor it seems, which is not much of a strange thing as I do that sometimes. The house in particular was one of the German style ones you see in the Cincinnati area, tall and thin, but long and adjacent to other houses or businesses that look just like it.

As I was mowing the yard, the owner came out to sit and chat a bit, a small older woman in her robe. While we were talking, she was remarking that she hadn't seen her daughter Jenny in a long while. Jenny apparently lived in a basement apartment in her house. She didn't seem worried, but was just remarking that it had been a while. She said she needed to go downstairs at some point and check on her dog.

At that time, a tall chubby man walked up to us to talk to the older woman. He was a bar owner in the building next door to her house and complained that he was hearing scratching sounds from the wall and it was irritating him and his customers. The woman believed that it must be Jenny's dog, but stated that she had not heard anything strange. The man was adamant that the dog be taken care of or he was going to complain to the police.

The woman seemed concerned, deciding that she should go and check on the dog. My curiosity being what it is, I went with them. A crowd had formed at the basement door, I'm guessing from the bar in question. The basement door was down several concrete steps, but was visible from the sidewalk next to it. As the woman opened the door with her key, I instinctively took a step back, expecting something to jump out. I've seen movies like this before and know that usually a body falls out or a creature leaps forward. I was wrong in this case, as nothing happened.

From my view from the sidewalk, I could see inside the room. In the small room was just a bed against the wall. Curtains hung from a single window. The bed and floor were covered with sandy brown clumps that I figured had to be dog poop. I noted that it seemed smeared in some spots and up on the wall. I wondered how it got up so high as no dog could have done that. No smell hit me, but this is a dream.. maybe dog poop in a dream doesn't stink. In the room, there was no dog to be found. Finally, after a missing daughter and a dog that hadn't apparently been walked for some time, the old lady began to worry.

The basement room had other rooms attached and people began walking from the other rooms into the room I could see. I don't know where they came from, but figured they may have been bar folks who entered the basement from the adjacent bar or from inside the old woman's house. One was a young pretty black lady in a dark yellow suit. She seemed out of place is why I remember her specifically. Another man stood next to her as they were looking around.

As both of them stood by the edge of the bed, the man suddenly slumped to his knees and screamed in surprise as he was pulled beneath the bed. The black lady threw her hand up to her mouth in surprise, but was frozen in fright in that she didn't think to move away from the bed. A pair of female hands shot out from under the bed and grabbed her ankles. With a quick thump, the lady hit the floor and was dragged under the bed herself. All of this happening while I stood at the sidewalk and watched through the open exterior basement door.

Another man ran down the steps and stood in the room looking for the two screaming people. I tried to warn him, but his ankles were grabbed by the hands and dragged under the bed himself. Suddenly, from the next room, Dan ([livejournal.com profile] stripedtiger) walked out to see what the commotion was all about. Dan stood right in front of the bed. I started screaming at him to get the heck out of there. Dan stood there for a moment, looking at me with his baby blues with an expression that made me think he thought I was nuts. The hands never grabbed for him and he walked forward and out the door. All I could think was that Jenny was full.

The dream seem to take one of those "and here is how the future went from that point on" sequences, scenes that were sporadic and took a reader or viewer through the story at a quick pace. Apparently, the police were never called, the missing people were just missing, and eventually life went on for the main characters. The old lady was now aware that her daughter Jenny lived in the apartment still, but she never really saw her again.

Every so often, when the scratching noises would start again, the old woman would call for a repairman or a hire a handy man to come fix something in the basement. One of the scenes showed a half naked muscular man with a thick sandy-colored mustache banging on the basement window, trying to escape something that was chasing him. The camera zoomed up on him from behind. He turns suddenly, his face twisted in horror and his muscular chest heaving, and screams as whatever it was catches up with him.

The dream then went black and changed to an episode of "Happy Days," one in which Ralph Malph secretly wears the uniform of the opposing high school basketball team. A cunning plan to cause the opposing team to lose. His name is called during the game and he goes out to do them some damage... And then I wake up.

... yeah, my dreams are weird...

Hmm, until the Ralph Malph part this sounds like the beginning of a really cool screenplay. Very interesting....
