Night of the Living Dead in 3D

I went to see two movies today, but I'll report on the other one tomorrow. Tonight, the Esquire Theatre was showing Night of the Living Dead 3-D.

You look real enough to touch...
Now I've never seen a 3-D movie at the theater before, so that was really the main reason I wanted to go. While I was chatting on-line tonight, my buddy Scott said hey. Having no plans of his own, I invited this burly bear to join me for the movie. After buying your ticket, the theater gives you a pair of 3-D glasses for the movie. Apparently to make it idiot-proof, there are directions printed on them:

Wear Me!
Also in attendance at this movie was LJ's own Bob (
prisonbitch) who was there with friends of his to enjoy the film as well. We all donned our specs at least once before going into the theater.

Burly Scott before and after doning the 3-D specs
Okay, the movie itself was pure schlock! There was much heckling from the audience, and for once I didn't mind. For those who aren't familiar with it, the movie centers around the dead coming to back to life and craving some human flesh. A young couple escapes from the walking dead to a farm house where they encounter pot smoking people watching the original on TV and a couple having sex in the barn. The dead show up and begin eating them right away.
The film was B-grade all the way. The acting was horrible, to the point of laughable, the special effects were cheap and easy, and the writing was just plain bad. With a taste of camp, and characters sticking joints toward the screen multiple times (like you just reach out and have a toke), the movie was entertaining enough. The story is a bit updated. Instead of Barbara's brother saying "They're coming to get you, Barbara," he text messages it to her. Sadly, the character of Ben, a young black man in the original, which was very novel at the time, is played by a pretty white guy this time around. There are some typical horror movie bits, such as a naked woman running from the walking dead, breasts flopping around as she screams. The movie's main redeeming quality, the thing that drew all of us to them, was of course the 3-D presentation.
For any locals who wish to see it, the Esquire is playing it again tomorrow night at 11:30 PM.
Did I enjoy it? Yeah, it was kinda stupid, but very neat to see a 3-D movie in the theater.
Would I see it again? Probably not.
Buy the DVD? *laughing*
