Horrorfest is starting this weekend at select theaters. Being the horror movie fan I am, I couldn't pass up a chance to see a flick or two, especially when I go tot work so early today. So I took in two movies today of the eight showing this weekend.
Unrest is about a group of medical students who begin dying after a cadaver in their gross anatomy class appears with apparent self-inflicted wounds. The story is a bit simple, but there are some very creepy moments there, playing on fears about hospitals and morgues.
Dark Ride is a relatively formula slasher flick. It pays some homage to the horror movies of the late 1970's and early 80's though. A group of college students on a trip decide to visit an amusement park haunted house ride where a pair of twin girls had been killed years before. Unbeknownst to them, the killer has escaped the insane asylum and is ready to kill again. The movie includes picking up a sexy blonde hitchhiker, smoking pot, breaking into the fun house, one pair of naked breasts, and death during a sex scene. The only thing really missing is the virtuous female survivor, none of the girls in the movie are worthy. It may sound like I hated it, but in reality I enjoyed it. There was a good, if not predictable, twist at the end. There was one cute furry guy I liked, which of course means he was slated to die early so I couldn't admire him.
I'm debating on seeing more tomorrow. I may wait until Sunday.
Did I enjoy it? Yes to both.
Watch it again? Probably not Unrest, but yes for Dark Ride
Buy the DVD? Probably not for either.
