When people ask me about my favorite songs or favorite types of music, it is to pinpoint exactly what I like. My philosophy is that if I like what I hear, I buy it or download it. They come from lots of sources -- friends, tv shows, commercials, radio, etc. Here's the top five of late:
  • "Tony" by Patty Griffin. I think it was [livejournal.com profile] slacker_x who posted the lyrics to this song. While a very sad story about a gay boy who kills himself after being taunted by everyone, it really comes to life with Patty's rich voice.
  • "Que Sera Sera" by Pink Martini. I heard this song as the background music on the pilot episode of Dead Like Me. It has a very maudlin sound, but I love the vocals.
  • "Crazy Bitch" by Buckcherry. I have no idea. I heard it on the local hard rock station and the beat was infectious.
  • "Before He Cheats" by Carrie Underwood. I was hoping that Bo Bice was going to win that season of "American Idol" (even though I don't really watch). With her most recent singles being so religion-based, I figured her for an Anne Murray knockoff. In fact, I had heard this song a few times on the radio before I knew it was her. I love the lyrics and can enjoy the idea of revenge on a cheater.
  • "Just Remember I Love You" by Beki Hemingway. I heard a guy sing this song during karaoke while I was in a bar in DC. He had a great voice and the song was simple and fun. I found this version on iTunes.

Any suggestions by the masses on what to listen to next???

Uhm.. i'm a big erasure fan ( guess how come i'm gay haha) and I heard about this new album Union Street (http://www.erasureinfo.com/releases/albums/unionstreet.html).
At first I thought it was going to be very typically erasure.. very synthetic.
But it's accoustic. Basically Andy Bell singing with lots of guitars.
Lovely songs that I have treasured for many years with a more intimate touch.
If you follow the link you can hear some excerpts.
Boy, Home and Love Affair being some of my all-time favourites of the band.

Also by Andy Bell, and something more suitable for a gym, would be the single Crazy (http://www.sanctuaryrecords.co.uk/media/video/andybell/crazy_hi.mov). Dance music with his very unique voice.

Also, if we're feeling dancey, we can go to Bootie SF (http://www.bootiesf.com/) so we can download some of the best mashups I am listening to lately.
