My first day at work wasn't too bad. Lots of people asking me about the class and I was brutally honest, that it was terrible. I was so very happy to get home to my own bed. Mom visiting on Saturday was okay too, always good to see her. Just some random stuff from the day(s) gone by (in no particular order) ...

  • Whenever I have a boring class to attend, I do some pretty good drawings to pass the time. I revamped by Religious Wrights supervillian team into a group based on high school clique stereotypes. I need to draw color toons of those sometime.

  • Pluto got downgraded to "dwarf planet" from planetary status. Poor hunk of rock. It seems weird that a scientific body can restructure the description of a planet to exclude one. I wonder if a future group will look back and change Pluto back to a planet. I actually was kind of looking forward to having new planets added.

  • I found out that one of the folks killed in the plane crash in Lexington, KY was the guy who owned Findley's Roller Rink near my hometown.

  • What is it about Ernest Hemingway that I find amazingly sexy? Granted I have thing for graying beards and he had a great one. Honestly, I think it was the fact that he seemed to exude manliness, being a world traveler, an avid hunter, and a gritty writer (but with a soft side in some stories). I should have read more of his works. While searching the net, I found a photo of him with Marlena Dietrich. I could see the two of them smoking cigars and checking out chicks together. You have to admire that.

I found this picture of him on the net and I have to admit, he was cute when he slept :)

  • I want to be an Emmy (actually this Emmy).. :)

It's very understandable to be sentimental about Pluto. But there is nothing constant about science. For example, Mercury and Jupiter are both planets, yet Mercury has more in common with Ceres than Jupiter. And Pluto is really not much more than a very large comet that would develop a tail and start evaporating if brought closer to the sun. I wonder what schoolchildren will think about astronomy 50 years from now, when we have a huge number of other "dwarf planets" catalogued. Oh well, just my thoughts. I just hope I'm alive when the New Horizons probe reaches Pluto in 2015.

I wish I had taken an astronomy class in college. I guess when I grew up learning the nmenonics to remember the planets order, it never occurred to me that it could change. Still, I guess they have to draw the distinction somewhere.

"My very efficient mother just served us nachos."

Or the more adventurous: "My very energetic mother just sat upon ninjas."

And from , where a contest for a new mnemonic device was held, comes this winner:

"My! Very educated morons just screwed up numerous planetariums."
