Little Miss Sunshine
Aug. 19th, 2006 05:21 pmI remember seeing the preview for this movie months ago and after reading posts by
chrisglass and
xkot, I decided to catch a matinee at a nearby movie theater (there are two in 10 minutes walking distance from here).

Little Miss Sunshine Shines...
When the small child in a somewhat misfit family learns that the winner of the area Little Miss Sunshine pageant has been disqualified due to "diet pills or something," her family takes her as the runner-up on the road so she can compete in the finals. Among the relatives on the trip are a motivational speaker father, overworked mother, gay and post-suicidal uncle, drug and sex fiend grandfather, and a vow-of-silence mute brother. All of the actors are wonderful in this movie. Toni Collette is showing up in a lot of movies this summer, having just seen her recently in The Night Listener. Steve Carell does a great job as the emotionally devastated uncle (and darn cute with a full beard). The story is very funny with each of the family seemingly losing part of a personal dream so that they completely support the one their daughter has. The Little Miss Sunshine pageant is frightening (at least to me), but I assume they are all that way.
Did I enjoy the movie? Very much, I was laughing out loud in many places.
Would I watch it again? Yes.
Buy the DVD? I can see it in my video collection.
