Rearview mirror sight...
Nov. 9th, 2003 01:32 pmI drove home today. I've been away for several days and was looking forward to getting into my house for some relaxation.
I was waiting at a red light, ready to go into my neighborhood, when I happened to see a dreadful situation unfold in the SUV behind me through my rear view mirror. A young woman was sitting in the driver's seat with an elderly lady sitting in the passenger's seat. The young woman was shaking the elderly woman repeatedly. The elderly lady appeared to be unconscious and was not coming to, her head just bobbed side-to-side. The younger woman's face grew very distressed and she immediately grabbed her cell phone and was crying to whomever she was speaking to.
I thought seriously about getting out of the car and running back there to see if I could help. Then the light changed and I realized that she must be driving the older lady to the hospital down the street. The younger woman was obviously distressed, but appeared to be very much in control -- not speeding or becoming overly distraught. I saw her drive down the hospital road and I hope that the elderly lady was okay.
