Teaching Class in DC -- Day One
Jul. 10th, 2006 11:13 pmWhile I do wear the shirt and tie on occasion, I don't always enjoy it. After walking from hotel to Metro station, ride, and walk from Metro station to class, I was sweating through my clothes. Clean shirt and tie looks great, sweaty shirt and tie looks ... less than great. Class went well today, with the exception of one student who got sick and I ran to CVS to get him some antacids (sweating again) and a little drama between other instructors. Apparently the class is business casual and that applies to instructors too, so I have new shirts and ties for another day, but not for this class.
After we got out late, I got a call from a 411 friend named Jim. He lives near the hotel and agreed to meet me for dinner. Jim and I went to Annie's Paramount Steakhouse, as
md_mancub said it was a gay tradition. Nice atmosphere, good food and very good company. Jim is a very interesting guy and incredibly handsome. He has the most attractive eyes. After dinner we hit an ice cream shop whose name I don't recall. Cafe au Lait ice cream is wonderful.

This is Jim, see what I mean by handsome
I told him about my clothing issues and asked if there was an Old Navy or something where I could buy some inexpensive shirts. The sweet guy took me to Old Navy across town to get them before we headed back to my hotel. I hugged him fiercely and gave him a big smooch before he had to head home, he's the best.

He was indeed kind enough to assist in getting some dress casual shirts for your classes.

Date: 2006-07-11 04:30 am (UTC)By the way, what is "Business Casual" these days? It used to be polo type shirt with dockers. Has that changed at all? I know that's what we wear at meetings that we go to.
Jus' wonderin...
Hugs!

Date: 2006-07-12 09:40 am (UTC)To my knowledge, business casual is still a collared shirt and Dockers, I think, though some students will wear jeans and a nice shirt. They're sitting in a chair all day on a computer so no one really complains about jeans.

First date and you go shopping. He's a keeper. ;-)
