Well, it's been an interesting few days back in my hometown area. I've been doing some small inspections in the area and spending time with the family.

Got to see my best friend from college, who is now a doctor. I went to school with both him and his wife, so they are old friends. I got to see their one year old son, who is Greg (my buddy) made over. I spent some time with my brother's pseudo-girlfriend who came over and cooked us all a delicious dinner last night. And I got to spend time with my mom and her teenage giddiness. Like I said, it's been interesting so far.

I took the nephew to the movies today to see "Brother Bear." It's a good movie, typical Disney fare, and full of children. Afterwards we played video games and then went walking around at the local flea market. The latter was my big mistake. He has $11 burning a hole in his pocket and he wanted a new video game. Which meant that I would be footing the rest of this $40 game.

Now my sis has told me he's getting a new game system for Christmas and the game he wanted was for teenagers (he's only seven). So I said no and he didn't speak to me the entire way back. I hate being the responsible uncle sometimes. I know he's a little spoiled, and I'm partly responsible for that, but sometimes... it just unnerves me a little. Those big brown eyes, that quivering lip, that pout... ugh! It tugs the heartstrings.

I know that had to be hard for you, but cheers to you for not further contributing to his spoiledness! Seriously - he needs to be grateful his uncle took him to the movies, and you don't *owe* him anything - to not speak to you after that is really rude, and buying him something would reinforce the behavior.

Thanks for the comments. His mom wasn't terribly pleased with him either, so I think the days of him getting what he wants are ending. He's a really good kid, actually. Usually very little trouble. He's going to love me even more when Christmas rolls around. When I asked his mom what he needed, she said "Clothes," which as you know, no kid regards as a gift.
