I just got home from the Cincinnati Men's Chorus' performance of "The Best of Times -- The Music of Our Lives" which stars LJ's very own Brian ([livejournal.com profile] cincycub). It is a great show. Here are my favorite parts:
  • "For Good" from the musical Wicked, who doesn't love that soundtrack original cast album?
  • Christine Lavin's "Good Thing He Can't Read My Mind" -- you'll want to eat sushi for the one you love, even if you hate sushi.
  • Charisma + spunk = "crunk".. ask Brian, he said it.. ;)
  • "Miss Twinkleton's School for Sensitive Boys" -- a wonderful song for those of us who sucked at sports. The song involves hankies being pulled. Miss Twinkleton is part Mary Poppins and part Mary Kay...
  • "What Matters" -- in memory of Matthew Shephard, the harmonies they do are amazing...

There is another performance Saturday night at the Mt. Auburn Presbyterian Church at 8 PM. I highly recommend the show. Click the link above to pre-order tickets ($15 in advance, $20 at the door -- and well worth it).

Brian, Sean, and the visiting [livejournal.com profile] need_2_chat headed to Skyline Chili for a late dinner... sooo goood...

Wonderful! And congrats all around!

But don't let me catch you calling the Original Cast Album to Wicked (or any other Broadway show) a "soundtrack," unless it was actually from a movie, such as Madonna's Evita or Emmy Rossum's Phantom of the Opera. *waggling finger like a dour schoolmarm*

;-)

When I was in GMCW, we had "Miss Twinkleton's School" commissioned! It was a fun song to sing. I got to wear PJs, sit on the floor, and stare at the chorus during the whole number. :)

And yes, Lavin's song is fantastic.

Congrats to CMC and [livejournal.com profile] cincycub!

I loved the "Miss Twinkleton's School" number. I've looked all over and can't find a recording of it online (Borders, Amazon, iTunes, etc.)

I'll be downloading the Lavin song later :)

I sing for the Philadelphia Gay Men's Chorus and we also will be doing "Miss Twinkleton's School for Sensitive Boys" and "Good Thing He Can't Read My Mind"! I can not wait! We are also debuting a commissioned piece as well as several really moving songs.
:)
I need to get my hands on "What Matters"...sounds like it would be a great piece to perform.

Ah, I wish that I could sing (well).

You can find the song on iTunes by Randi Driscol. It's a very moving song.
