Not as innocent as she appears
Ellen Page as the not-so-innocent Hayley in Hard Candy

I was going to make this a movie-free weekend, but I found out that Hard Candy was playing at the Esquire. So since I had a couple of free passes, I elected to hit the movies.

Hayley is a smart 14-year-old who meets a 30-year-old internet admirer named Jeff at the local coffee shop. After they go to his house, Hayley takes drastic measures to investigate the disappearance of a young girl and expose the secrets of her admiring pedophile. Things are tense in this movie, Hayley goes from innocent to disturbing rather well. There are things in this movie that will make most guys squirm, but I'll not ruin it. The direction of the movie is a bit jumpy in parts and there are lots of close-ups. Just warning folks with motion sickness.

No talking kids in this flick, but there was some old geezer talking behind me alone, adding his own commentary. I finally turned around and told him to shut up. It had a limited effect. Old Geezer was almost as disturbing as the movie, as he giggled through some of the more tense, squirm-worthy scenes.

Did I enjoy the movie? It was good, very suspenseful.
Would I see it again? I think so.
Buy the DVD? Hmmm... I don't see it as something I'd own.
