Three Movie Weekend...
Apr. 16th, 2006 05:04 pmHaving just gotten back from a weekend in my hometown last weekend, I didn't feel like trekking down there this weekend too. So I've been hitting the movies repeatedly this weekend (well, I did have two free passes). Click the movie title for the usual stuff...

Scary Movie 4
It's mindless spoofing, which is always good when you have had a rough day at work. I didn't want to think, just laugh. It was funny, a good mix of The Village, War of the Worlds, Saw, and The Grudge. Anna Faris is too funny, but I have to admit that I love Regina Hall as Brenda.
Did I enjoy the movie? It was fun.
Would I see it again? I guess I would if friends were going to see it.
Buy the DVD? Eh, it wasn't that good.

The Wild
It's a bit like Madagascar with animals leaving the zoo to get to the wild again, but the storyline differs from there. When Sammy the Lion's son Ryan accidentally gets shipped to the wild, Sammy and his friends leave the zoo to try to rescue him. The animation is great and I love the characters. Sammy is voiced by Keifer Sutherland, but by far the best character is Nigel the Koala voiced by Eddie Izzard. The theater was not as packed as I thought it would be.
Did I enjoy the movie? I loved it.
Would I see it again? Probably.
Buy the DVD? Not sure, still haven't bought Madagascar either.

Thank You for Smoking
Probably the best movie of the three, this satirical look at a spin doctor who does lobbying for the tobacco industry is wonderful. Aaron Eckhart is shamelessly funny and panders cigarettes in a way that makes you almost believe him. It really makes you wonder about the duality of the tobacco industry, forking over money for a non-smoking campaign in the same breath as talking about new ads for new products. I'm sure it actually happens. He often has lunch with friends who lobby for the alcohol and firearms industries and they causally discuss how many people their products have killed. I highly recommend this one.
Did I enjoy the movie? I loved it.
Would I see it again? I'd love to.
Buy the DVD? A possible contender :)
It was a good weekend.. and no real problems in the theaters.. maybe all the kids were dragged away for the weekend :D
