I watched Black Christmas (1974) again today. I love the creepy feel of this movie. It's so low-budget that they rely on atmosphere than special effects. I also love to see the young Andrea Martin, Olivia Hussey, and Margot Kidder in the movie.

On a lark, I looked up the movie on the Internet Movie Database to see which actor played the bearish Santa. In the search I found that they are planning a remake to be released in November 2006, in time for the coming holiday season.

Canadian comedienne/actress Andrea Martin who played the character of Phyllis in the original movie will be playing the sorority house mother Mrs. Mac in the new one. Among the new faces in the movie will be Mary Elizabeth Winstead from Sky High and Final Destination 3 and Michelle Trachenberg from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I hope they capture the eerie feeling of the first in the new one. I'm looking forward to this one... :)

Update: A news article for the upcoming movie, being filmed now, is at the Fangoria website with pictures. The link is here. Some production photos are online at Canada.com.

I have a big feeling they're going to "Hollywood"ize it, and you WILL find out who the killer is. Since it's a different director, it's totally possible.

Well, according to the IMDB, studio executives wanted the ending to have Chris (the boyfriend of the first girl killed) to be revealed as the killer at the end. Director Bob Clark fought to keep the original, more ambiguous ending instead.

You can tell in some of the sequences that the killer is not Chris though as the shadows don't quite cover the killer's face and is slightly recognizable...

I hope the remake has the same ending (or at least a better one) :)

How much you wanna bet that the remake of "Black Christmas" will be rated PG-13?

Actually, the Fangoria story states that the director is aiming for an R rating, which I think will be great, if only to keep some (though not all) of the teenage brats out of the theater.

That's encouraging. The fewer teenage brats, the better. We seem to be at a point in time when movie producers are rejecting the tendency to sanitize horror for the sake of that oh-so-lucrative teen demographic. "The Devil's Rejects," "Hostel," and now "The Hills Have Eyes" (which I have not seen yet) have all been gleefully nasty.

I remember that when I went to see "Hostel," they were actually enforcing the R rating, turning teenagers away at the door. One guy even came in trying to get an older man to play the dad for his friends.

... the answer was "No.." I wanted to shake his hand...
