After such a late night, I decided to take the day off. My boss wasn't too surprised and told me over and over again that they'd make due without me. He's a sarcastic guy at times. It's why we get along so well.

I got a haircut this morning, followed by a visit to the gym, and then home. A online friend the other day asked if I had ever met any celebrities in my travels. The answer I gave was no, which wasn't quite true as I didn't remember the time I met Red Green, another fine Canadian.

Harold, Me & Red Green
Harold, Me and Red Green

I dug this photo out of the picture box. It was back in the summer of 1998 when I lived in Kansas City. Red Green had helped out the PBS stations in the annual beg-a-thon. The top ten stations got a visit by Red and Harold. I happened to pledge to the local Topeka station, who surprisingly won a visit. So I braved the crowds to meet Red and Harold when they came to Topeka and got my picture taken with them.

I've always enjoyed the comedy of the The Red Green Show. The gravel-voiced, bearded Red Green and the group of rural folks out at Possum Lodge have entertained me for years. It's not Shakespeare, but it's not meant to be.

The downtrodden Possum Lodge pledge says it all: "I'm a man.. but I can change.. if I have to.. I guess.."

So what celebrities have you met?

I got to spend about 20 minutes with her, and she is just as sweet, if not moreso, than she comes off on TV. Very personable. I actually hate country music, but love to hear her sing.

My mom actually got to meet Dolly when she was just starting out at a restaurant. She remembers her being a very sweet young lady :)

So far, I've managed to meet:
Bernadette Peters (just as classy as you would imagine her to be)
Marla Maples Trump (i came across her right around minute 14 of her 15)
Kelsey Grammar (he stood outside the stage door signing autographs for at least 45 minutes)
Jennifer Coolidge (at some hole-in-the-wall martini bar in NYC's meatpacking district)
Darrell Hammond (just walking down the street)
Sebastian Bach (he of the 80's hair band, when he was doing Jekyll & Hyde)

Then of course I've met several people who may only be celebrities to my fellow classical music nerds:
Renee Fleming
Denyce Graves
Barbara Daniels
John Harbison
Lukas Foss
John Corigliano
Bryn Terfel
Jerry Hadley

Red Green, ah my speech coach got me hooked on the show, but I haven't watched it in a while. As far as celebrities I've met:

Bruce Campbell at his book signing for his autobiography, very cool guy.
Eddie Izzard after a Denver performance of Sexie. So worth the 10+ hour drive. He's actually pretty quiet off stage and shorter than I thought he would be.
Bill Goldberg at a publicity signing back in 1998. That boy is HUGE and a pretty genuine nice guy.

I have two of Eddie Izzard's DVD's and one has him signing autographs after the show, so I can believe he's very approachable. I envy you seeing him live.

... and Bill Goldberg? YUM! :D

I have met
Robert Schuller
James Michener
Lewis Grizzard
Jimmy Carter
Stuart Woods and few other authors from my years working at the bookstore. A lot of Romance authors too.

Whoppie Goldberg, came into my store in Pittsburgh when she was filming her movie, I think it was called "Where the Boys Are" I rang her up, she was very quiet so I didn't ask her any questions.

Ah, I would have loved to have met Lewis Grizzard in the past. I read his autobiography years ago and I always loved his humor. I was sad when he passed away back in late 1993 or early 1994.

My favorite quote of his was:

"Life is like a dogsled team. If you ain't the lead dog, the scenery never changes..."
