I ventured to Union Station tonight for the Oscar Party being put together by the Cincinnati Mens Chorus. Being the friend of several Chorines, I like to support the home team. And going out for dinner is fun too. :)

So after having a yummy Long Island Iced Tea, I settled in with Brian ([livejournal.com profile] cincycub), Eric ([livejournal.com profile] nonljeric), and Derek ([livejournal.com profile] _decibel_) to watch the Academy Awards and order dinner. With two jello shots, buffalo chicken tenders, fried mac and cheese (we thought of you [livejournal.com profile] stripedtiger during the fried mac and cheese yumminess), and Belgian chocolate cheesecake, I was full!

Gustavo Santaolalla Wins the OscarI thought that John Stewart did a great job hosting, the opening sequence with past hosts refusing to do it again was funny. Whoopi Goldberg saying "Oh, hell no!" was priceless.

Some awards were expected (Philip Seymour Hoffman for Capote) and some were more surprising (I thought Brokeback Mountain was a sure thing, but everyone assures me that Crash is very worthy of the award). I was disappointed that Felicity Huffman didn't win for Transamerica as I felt she exuded considerable talent making that role so believable. There was some nice eye candy among the winners though, like bearish Gustavo Santaolalla (left), who won the Oscar for best original score for Brokeback Mountain.

The CMC were selling jello shots and raffle tickets, the former being served by a very handsome, furry-chested cowboy (sigh). We bought some of each. Every commercial break they would draw for prizes. All of us at the table won at least once. Eric won a DVD of Ed Wood and Brian got a De-Lovely DVD and a Union Station gift card. Derek and I won twice. Derek got two VHS tapes of South Park, a DVD of All About Eve, and free tickets to the Esquire theater. My booty included a Union Station gift card, two Esquire tickets, a CMC CD, and a DVD of L.A. Confidential, which strangely I've never seen, despite being a big Kevin Spacey fan.

It was a great evening, thanks for inviting me Brian. It's now past midnight and I have to work tomorrow, though I am contemplating taking a vacation day tomorrow.

He's cute. Now I'm even more glad I bought a couple of his albums a month or so ago!!

I just heard on my car ride home last night that Gustavo Santaolalla will be at the Hollywood Virgin Megastore doing a signing... so I might have to venture out to meet him. The score was indeed stunning and I am impressed with the sudden influx of Latin writers. I also saw quite a few other yummie bears... I'm most in awe with the brief glimpse of "A History of Violence" writer, Josh Olson.... totally adorable but got only like 5 seconds of airtime... I wanna see more!

Oh yes I totally agree... there was a cutie with the "March of the Penguins" - he was to the far left... and even Paul Giamanti looked cute in his nerdy sort of way...

As soon as I saw this man win his Oscar, and this is no joke, I knew you would make a post about him. ;)
