When a Stranger Calls...

In yet another example of Hollywood's current trend to remake movies (showing a lack of creativity in my opinion), When a Stranger Calls is a remake of a film of the same name from 1979.



"Like, this job is SO not worth $10 an hour..."
I always liked the original, despite the fact that the best part was the first 30 minutes and the flick petered out after that. The remake basically takes those tense original 30 minutes and expands the story for the full length of the film.

The story centers on a young girl named Jill (Camilla Belle) who babysits two children for a rich couple at their remotely-located home. While the children sleep upstairs, Jill begins receiving a series of disturbing phone calls, including the infamous question "Have you checked the children?" The police trace the unknown caller and inform her that the calls are coming from inside the house (not a spoiler, it's in the previews).

The movie starts a bit slow and the suspense doesn't build as well as it could have, but overall I enjoyed the movie, moreso than the original, I think. I'm tempted to go see it again, as the theater was full of chatty teenagers who were better behaved than usual, but still distracting. My buddy Scott was with me and he didn't enjoy it as much as I did, calling it the most lousy film he'd seen in a while. I told him about Bloodrayne, which made this flick look Oscar-worthy in comparison.

I read multiple lousy reviews of this movie. I seen it today and It was good, I was suprised. I thought it was alot better then the original. It was good suspense with out all the bloodshed.
