More Dreaming -- Previous Jobs
Nov. 28th, 2005 05:42 amIt was one of those freaky nights, not necessarily full of nightmares, but full of odd dreams. The two I recall specifically involved past types of jobs I've done. I put them behind cuts to be kind :)
The first had me working at a restaurant like an Applebee's, or maybe a bit more upscale. It apparently was my first night, I had my swipe card for orders and everything. I don't recall any training being done, which probably explains why I sucked at it. My first patron was this wisp of a woman who ordered her food with all sorts of conditional comments.
"I want the peas and potatoes, but only if the potatoes are from Idaho, do you know if they are from Idaho? I also want some corn, but only if the corn is fresh and not from a can, where do you get your corn from?"
By the time she'd finished ordering, my pad looked like Stephen Hawking had taken the order. So I went back to swipe my card, which took forever because of the buttons that made no sense and having to ask the cooks all the conditional questions, then trying to figure out what she would actually get. Eventually, I was too scared to go back out there because it had taken forever and I had other tables that had been waiting for me and they were pissed. I've waited tables before and I was much better at it than this!
The second dream had me working back as a food chemist in Kansas City. I was there with old and current co-workers, some of whom looked strange because the bearded ones had shaved themselves only to a mustache and some of them had colored them to take the gray out of their hair. They looked, well, odd, like they were trying to look younger. I don't remember being upset being back there, which was strange too because I couldn't wait to move away from most of the people in that office.
The dream basically had me walking the hallways, saying hello to everyone, some of whom didn't recognize me (I've not really changed that much). I guess this could be a nightmare, considering that I swore I'd never transfer back there.
