Two Softball Wins and A First for Me
Aug. 2nd, 2011 11:48 pmMy team played a double-header tonight in softball.
In the first game, my captain put me at first base. Really. First base. I've never played any infield position other than catching, so this seemed to me to be a BIG MISTAKE. Strangely enough, I turned out to be pretty damn good at it. I got another shin ding to go with the other bruises on my right leg. It'll be colorful tomorrow. We tied the game TWICE and went into two extra inning. I was the last to bat and fired a line drive straight down the third base line, which batted in the winning run. Even better is that I did it in front of my old team who was waiting to play on our field. It was a long game, but it felt great.
The second game I played outfield, subbing for different players, as our usual first base guy made it for the second game. Despite a slow start, we did it again, winning 12 to 8.
Normally I admit, I don't care if we win or lose. I really have just had a great time playing and everyone is so low key about it. Tonight, in winning both games, I have to say that it felt really good.
The fact that I don't have to get up early tomorrow is even better. While I was eating a very late dinner of cheap ballfield pizza, I saw this lady supporting her team who played the 9 PM game and had to snap a photo. Is this anything like an athletic supporter??
