Amid the errands and such I did this weekend, I took some time to see Paul on Saturday. I am a big Simon Pegg and Nick Frost fan, so I really was happy to see this get released.
Pegg and Frost play two British comic book/sci-fi geeks who go on an alien roadtrip in the southwest after hitting Comic Con. After a few visits to the local sights, they end up finding a real alien named Paul after he wrecks his getaway car.
The two help Paul in his escape from "The Big Man" and hit one adventure after another on their way to his final destination. It's full of fantastic sci-fi movie trivia and homages. A favorite among the many was a visit to a country-western bar where the musicians are playing the Tatooine (sp?) bar music from Star Wars with country instruments. I laughed out loud many times, a couple of times I was pretty much the only one who got it.
Pegg and Frost are adorable in the movie, which only proves the fact that nerds can be hot. This one is definitely one to see again (if only to see whatever I might have missed the first time) and one to add to the DVD shelf with "Shaun of the Dead" and "Hot Fuzz."
