Another reason to be happy that I no longer live in Kansas City:

Kansas School Board OK's Evolution Change

How does one "rewrite" the definition of science? Being a scientist myself, I find this decision disturbing and if I were in high school I would take every opportunity to scoff at it in class.

Man... I just... *shakes head*

I really worry that in 10-20 years, once this current generation grows up and enters the workforce, that we'll be a nation of idiots. Between this anti-science double talk of Intellecutal Design, 10 years of neo-cons ripping about the "intellectual elite", and the sight of so many tech jobs being sent overseas, no kid in his/her right mind would want to study science. We're imposing a brain drain on ourselves, and that's going to make us, frankly, unable to compete with the rest of the world.

I really want to read "The Republican War on Science" by Chris Mooney

It is disturbing that people are dismissing science so easily. I sincerely hope that the rest of the country doesn't follow Kansas' decision. If only we could get a liberal president next term!

All I can think of is how the 'new math' was going to revolutionize teaching, and broaden our students intellect. Well, now we have a generation that is math illiterate! I know this is a broader debate, but maybe the damage will stay in Kansas...

Oh Geez! I had forgotten about the "new math" crap they tried out... I hope and pray this fizzles out soon.
