What is it about a $1 DVD that attracts my attention? I can't help but go through them, seeing if there isn't some oddball flick that I would want to watch. After all, it's only a buck.

Some time back I bought a handful of these DVD's. Today I watched a couple while cleaning house and being lazy. The first was The Satanic Rites of Dracula, a 1973 Hammer vampire flick starring Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing. Pure shlock, of course, but I enjoy the bad dialogue and 1970's fashions, which makes the movie more funny than frightening. I did notice that it starred a very young, pre-"Patsy Stone" Joanna Lumley.

Next, I watched some of the Superman cartoons from the 1940's. These cartoons are incredible, considering when they were made and how much they cost (about $10,000 each, which was an immense amount of money back then). Hand painted cells give them an oddly modern look, but the radio drama-style music and dialogue gives their age away. Still, they are very neat to watch.

I'd say they were both worth the dollar spent. :)
