I admit, for better or worse, I like watching the WB. The network that produced Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Charmed, Gilmore Girls, and Smallville appeals to me, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt on new shows. I'm not as much a fan of the comedies as I am of the adventure and supernatural shows.

I was curious about Supernatural. Not because of the two leads, neither of whom I am that impressed by, but because of the subject nature. I love a good ghost story. I also love urban legends. This show seems to be dealing with both. The first episode dealt with the story of the ghostly female hitchhiker on the side of the road wanting a lift home. The pilot deviated a bit from there, but it was a very creepy episode. Tonight's story about the Wendigo, a cannibalistic monster in the forest, had some eerie moments too (and it's only half over as I write this).

I don't think it will reach the cult status of Buffy, but its entertaining...

I am a "Smallville" addict! I can't decide if I am more in lust with Tom Welling or Jason Aeckles. Glad to see he is still gonna be on Supernatural, so I can still ooogle his box!!

Did you see the one where he was naked in the water tank except for a pair of red neophene shorts? *slurp*

Well, I'm a horror fan, so I decided to give "Supernatural" a shot, and for the most part I was impressed. Some of the special effect were awfully cool, specially during the climactic scene in which The Woman In White is reunited with her children. THAT was too fucked up. I kept watching it in "pause," frame by frame, and I must say the SFX team was pretty imaginative. Let's hope they can keep the momentum.

WHAT I DID NOT LIKE: The older of the two brothers is a complete asshole, Mr. Testosterone Attitude Man. Also, with all due respect to younger viewers, the WB is just not for me. It's so transparently geared toward kids. I'm 46, and I just can't deal with it. Sorry.

Well, I'm not a big fan of Jared Paladecki or the Jansen Ackles guy either, but the storyline is pretty good, if you like this sort of thing. I think they could have ditched one of them for a more burly character ;)

I was going to watch the show last night but had company. I kept seeing all of the previews for Smallville and I can't wait. Charmed is starting to slip downhill for me and if they don't do something to replace Buffy soon I may just have to create my own "hell mouth".

Ah, there is a big gaping hole left by Buffy that I don't think the WB has filled yet. Charmed is going downhill, I admit, but I'll watch it to the bitter end. Not sure how this season is going to make any sense after the crappy season finale last year.

I did notice that the WB has fewer programs this season, it seems.. it looks like a lot got canceled.

Please, when you mentions big gaping holes, I get an entirely different image - lol

Gonna have to remember to check that out. Keep forgetting the new shows are starting now. Haven't watched Smallville in ages. Kept forgetting about it and then just got so far behind I never bothered any more.

Well, I still watch Smallville regularly, but if I miss an episode I don't worry that much about it. You can always catch up on televisionwithoutpity.com.

I was just about to post about this. I didn't catch the premiere, but I caught last night's episode about the Wendigo. I still don't know how I feel about it.

The acting? Pretty damn good. I was surprised. But the show felt like it should have only been a half hour instead of a full hour. It just draaaaaaaagged.

Me: "Ugh, I might give this one more episode, but I dunno. It feels like a slow video game."
Nick: "Final Fantasy?"
Me: "Yes! Yak, yak, yak, overdramatic talk, blah, blah... SHOOT EVERYTHING IN SIGHT!.... yak, yak, zzzzzz....."

There was no logic whatsoever either. They explained what the Wendigo was... but not why it was there, way out of where it "usually" is. There's no background. It's just generally accepted that "It's here, and we have to kill it." This is the same thing that always bothered me about Buffy. Plot holes bother me, and the hugest one was at the end of the show: if the Wendigo moves so fast, why did it have such a hard time catching up to the three siblings and the younger hunter, especially when one of them was limping? It may seem like a little thing, but it was an important piece to the climax of the story, and it just didn't make sense.

I'll watch one or two more... but if this continues, bleh. Forget it.
