kybearfuzz: (Comic Book Bears)

After a long and stressful day at work, I decided to stop off at a local comic book store to see what new stuff is out. It isn't my usual comic shop that holds my books for me, so I didn't buy any of my usual comics, but looked to see if there were some one-timer buys for me. I also checked out the back issues for some good buys.

One of my favorites...

Even though I have all of the Justice League/Justice Society summer team-ups from the 1970's forward, I cannot resist a good buy. I have read some of mine to the point they are near tatters, so when I saw several team-up issues in the back issues for reasonable prices I had to buy them. I found JLA #'s 183-185 (JLA, JSA, and New Gods versus Darkseid and the Injustice Society) and JLA #'s 195 (above) through 197 (JLA and JSA versus the New Secret Society of Super-Villians).

I've loved these particular team-ups. JLA 183 sadly was penciller Dick Dillin's final issue, as he'd passed away suddenly from a heart attack, JLA 184 started a several issue run with my favorite George Perez doing the pencil work, and JLA 195-197 brought some great villians from the 1940's and 1950's to a new generation of readers. Mostly, these issues were favorite moments from my childhood in the early 1980's.

I'll put these copies in bags and boards to file away and continue to read my other issues over and over again, like usual. Hopefully, I'll be re-reading these when I am old and gray and telling those brats on the hovering bicycles to stay off my lawn while shaking my cane at them.

yep, Robin was a senator, altho, over on Earth 1, good ol' Babs (Batgirl) was a senator or congresswoman or something to that effect around the same time.

Oh, and Earth 2 Bats was Gotham's new Commissioner if I remember correct... yeah, more think about it, he was Commissioner Wayne when he died.

mmmmm... fun stuff :)

Think we can go back in time and convince them at the Crisis on Infinite Earths is actually a bad thing? (Don't even get me going on all the Supergirls!)

that's the thing... I have to admit I really like (where it has been done correct like the Flash) the single timeline of the heroes. I do miss the old Earth 2 stories but it would be a shame to lose the legacy of heroes thing that is going on now with JSA etc.

The Supergirls thing, yeah that's fucked up. I personally would prefer if they had continued to make use of the Peter David version (I don't care what he says tho, I know Fallen Angel was originally Linda in his head). Bringing back Kara just serves to muck it all up.

The supergirls stuff ultimately I can live with. It's the Legion that really pisses me off. I mean, REALLY pisses me off. I am so bored with Waid's latest incarnation and that just saddens me to no end.

Yeah, I used to live the Legion back in the Adventure/Superboy days. The "5 years later" bit was a bit fucked up but ok. I even liked the SW6 batch and the new names. The next group wasn't as good. Monstress (or whatever her name was) annoyed me... and making Princess Projectra a snake?!? Now this is even worse with the Legion being enemies of the United Planets instead of with them and almost all kids being members and stuff? And Colossal Boy not being from Earth now and he shrinks, not grows? Tho I still have to say that Starboy being black when his future self is white (Is he related to Michael Jackson or something?) really pisses me off since I'm a big fan of the whole Starman legacy, which he is part of. AAARRRGGGGHHHH!!!!!!

it flies in the face of so much that was so nicely created, Impulse and XS being cousins, the Starman legacy, etc. and was just a progression of the long legacy DC worked so hard to create. I actually liked the last incarnation, and was truly enjoying the last series until it was cut (after Monstress was gone and Projectra was morphed into something a little less snake like, altho Garth coming back as Jan? WTF???). It was also light for the most part. This new version just doesn't feel particularly fun to me and also feels lacking due to it's lack of connection to the rest of the DCU :(

Are you on Yahoo IM during the day? Figured I'd check before we fill up Mark's mailbox with replies and have to find some way to make it up to him. ;)

LOL... sadly no, yahoo im is verboten here :( But I was thinking the same thing. Hopefully he doesn't get a copy of every single one of these replies (yikes).

you can drop me a line at dendren at sbcglobal dot net any time tho :)

Sorry Mark, we'll take our comic geeking off your board :)

LOL.. no harm here, I wasn't sure what my comic posting would generate, I'm pleasantly surprised :)

.. and I have to say that I lost interest in the LSH after the Magic Wars thing. Sensor Girl was my favorite, I thought that story line was incredible, but then things got too strange for me :)

oooooh the sensor girl storyline... I truly believed (or wanted to believe) she was Supergirl pulled from the past by Brainy or someone. I was much more easily fooled by red herrings way back then.

Oh, I was way off with my guess. I was leaning towards Supergirl too, but it would have been too obvious. Projectra was completely out of left field in my mind, though the clues were there. I was shocked when I turned that last page :)
