Ireland Day One
Jun. 25th, 2005 03:58 amThe trip so far hasn’t been bad. I didn’t have internet access for the most part on the journey, so I typed some of this entry in Word with the idea that I’ll copy and past it into LJ later. It’s a bit much, so I cut this for those who would rather pass on it.
The flight from Cincinnati to Atlanta was pretty uneventful. I got to the airport three hours early only to be through security and sitting in the terminal within 30 minutes of arriving. It’s tough to sit for 2.5 hours when you know you could have put it off an hour or so, despite the nice eye candy walking around. On the flight, I got stuck sitting next to a young couple expecting their second child. They were nice folks, but the dad, who is my age or younger, was speaking to the baby in mommy’s tummy. Mommy wasn’t even showing yet, so all I could think was that the baby didn’t even have ears yet. Yeah, I’m cynical, I guess.
The Atlanta airport is huge. I can help but notice the large number of soldiers walking around here in the International concourse, all of them dressed in sand fatigues, getting ready to ship out I think. While I do see some older guys, obvious seasoned military, I can’t help but be surprised by the young ones. I know that you have to be only 18 to sign up, but the sight of these “kids” in uniform is alarming. They look so much younger. I swear I don’t think some of them are old enough to drive. Cynical though I tend to be, I do pray they’ll all be okay. I thought about taking pictures, but it just didn’t seem right.
The flight was completely booked, the movie player on the plane didn't work, so they compensated by overfeeding everyone. LOL... I guess there is something to making people so full they sleep. I managed to get about an hour of sleep, I just can't crash sitting up among strangers.
I'm beat, been traveling for 14 hours total. I know I'm not supposed to sleep, but I just don't think I can stay up much longer. And the voltage converter for my iBook may not be working, which is giving me some worry. The good thing, the internet is working :)
Later today, or possibly tomorrow, exploring Limerick....

Date: 2005-06-25 12:30 pm (UTC)There once was a man named Mark,
Who went out to Ireland on a lark,
He flew many hours in the air,
Landed safe and fair,
Now it's time to find that cruisy park!
