The Visit from Mat in More Detail
Apr. 20th, 2005 12:30 pmI didn't get a chance to describe some of the places I took
mat_t, some of them were good and a bit disappointing....
Mat and I took a quick nap at my place and headed to Hamburger Mary's for dinner. I really wanted to Mat to see Joan, the drag queen hostess. Now usually Joan is kinda a scary looking and I've been informed his mom doesn't his make up for him.
Sadly, Joan was not in full form unfortunately. With no wig, little make up, and nothing so glittery, Joan looked more like a tired Charles Nelson Reilly. Oh well. The food was pretty good.
We left Mary's and headed to Spurs and waited for karaoke to start at 9 PM. In the darkly lit bar, the strangest sight was the old man in shorts and a tee-shirt, sitting at the end of the bar, wearing a sequined ball cap. Frightening. After the singing started, we decided to leave. We walked down to Shooter's to an empty bar.. literally.. no one there, and it was 9:30 PM. I would have expected a few souls there, but nope.. the bartender only. Afterward, we walked to the local gay bookstore that had closed a half hour earlier. Darn... So the evening in gay Cincinnati was a bust. I'm not a bar guy, had little way of knowing...
Mat brought his iPod and we listened to this great folk singer, Christine Lavin, who is hilarious. He's seen her in concert a few times and I just loved the stories she sings about. I liked it so much, I had to download her album on iTunes myself. She has a great song called "What Was I Thinking?" that I love.
Mat and I wen to the Levee on Tuesday to grab some lunch at my favorite restaurant, the Claddagh Irish Pub. We sat outside, checking out the guys that walked by, rating them on their hotness. Slim pickings for the sunny afternoon really.
We decided to go play video games at Gameworks, demonstrating that we're both really bad at pool. He won all three games because I sank the 8-ball in the wrong pocket or scratched at sinking it. We did play some really cool games, spending a few hours in there. There was one really cute bear type, drinking beer and playing games, dressed in dockers and such. We tried several times to discreetly take his picture to no avail. We both rated him pretty high. We also wondered what he was doing there in the middle of the day. Our guess is that he was playing hookey(sp?).
Thinking what Cincinnati staple to have Mat try next, I thought of Skyline Chili. The only problem is that it's hit or miss with people, not everyone enjoys it. Mat didn't seem that interested, so I decided to take him to BW3 (Buffalo Wild Wings) instead. Bombarded by the usual cacophony of families and little kids, we managed to order and get seated. Sitting two tables away was this incredible musclebound hunk, complete with shoulder tattoos. He scored a high rating in the body department. Very large chest, but normal neck (translation: no apparent steriod usage). I was in love!!! He was there with his kid and girlfriend apparently, but no harm in looking.
After sacrificing several boneless wings on the altar of
ericdabear, we had desert (I totally blew off the low carb thing), and headed back to my place to let him repack and to let me burn the pics I'd taken to CD for him to take back.
I had a great time with Mat. I may have to visit him in NYC sometime in the future. :)
