After work today, I took a two hour quick nap (two hours is short for me). My buddy Eric called to see if I was heading to see the midnight showing of Sin City. So off to the Levee I go to catch the 10:15 show. Eric and Aaron showed up with Robbie and Patryk. The theater was packed, but they showed the movie in two different theaters at the same time to accomodate everyone.

Blue Eyes on Black and White Becky

Alexis Bledel as Becky in Sin City

Sin City was very impressive, a film with three separate, but interweaving storylines. The main male leads are gritty, flawed anti-heroes, with pensive voiceover dialogue right out of a Dashiell Hammett novel. Virtually every female in this movie is gorgeous, seductive, and deadly, not to mention either nude or scantly-clad. I think what impressed me the most was the color, or rather the lack of it. The movie is primarily black and white with only one or two vivid accent colors (like Becky's brilliant blue eyes in the pic above). There was also an amazing amount of gore in this movie, but in the black and white coloring, it was less disturbing.

Actually what impressed me more was the audience. It's been a long time since I've been to the movies where the audience wasn't talking, text messaging, and/or annoying the hell out of me. I think the fact there was very few teenagers in attendance and the movie kept their attention. A good movie experience for a change!

Uh! Jealous!

Have you read the graphic novels? I was really skeptical about a movie based on them, but by all accounts the movie really captured the books. I can't wait to see it.

I haven't read the graphic novels, but I admit that now I'm tempted. I've heard the opening sequence for the movie was actually the short that the director used to convince Frank Miller to let them shoot the movie.

I'm going to see it at 1:00pm tomorrow (Sunday). I wonder how many parents will be dragging their little kids along with them?

Well, since it's rated R, I'd hope they'd have the common sense to leave them at home. The movie does contain some pretty graphic scenes, moreso than most horror movies.

I know that the reality will be that a few will be wondering about.

I saw it and freaked when I saw Rory playing a hooker... My second thought was that you would see it and freak out as well and mention it in your blog... I even told Brian last night, "Mark is gonna mention the Rory/hooker thing n LJ, just watch..."

I know you so well..

LOL... I knew that Rory was in this, but unsure of the character she played. She did a decent job and I love how they illuminated her eyes. Now if she had done a nude scene, I'd have been disappointed.

Know me so well, huh? So, what kind of underwear am I wearing right now??? ;)

Around here you never go to a movie on opening night. It is always full of teenieboppers. So I will have to wait until next week to see it. I didn't know Rory was in it. I don't remember seeing her in any of the previews. I agree though, I would hate to see her do a nude scene. It is still a little strange to watch Lauren Graham in Bad Santa

I figured that a late showing would be less likely to have teenieboppers in it. Surprisingly enough, there weren't that many and the few that were there behaved themselves. It being Rated R must have helped.

Yeah, Rory nude would seem ... disturbing.

The girl in the picture above is Alexis Bledel who plays Rory on Gilmore Girls on the WB.

Thanks :)

Actually, I didn't give any plot points away that you couldn't have found on a Yahoo review. I hope you enjoy the movie though :)

It's not so much about plot points, but more about trying not to read too many positive comments about the movie, which would get my expectations up.
