Luckily with having yesterday off, I woke up relatively early (still slept in though) and went to see a very early matinee of Snowpiercer. It was just me and one other guy in the theater, and he was using the closed captioning device, so I suspect he had hearing issues. The few bodies in the theater worried me that it was a bad movie, but it was also really early (9:50 AM) so most probably weren't out yet.

The movie is a sci-fi, post-apocalyptic story. After releasing a chemical in the atmosphere to combat global warming, a new ice age overtakes the world. The only survivors are on board a train in perpetual motion on a year-long round track. The poor are relegated to the tail of the train while the privileged are in the front. It's a simple caste system where the tail folks are abused so the front train people can live in comfort. A bearded Chris Evans plays the leader of the tail group who move up the train in the hopes of taking it over, but the stellar cast member is Tilda Swinton who plays a crazed minister named Mason, chewing up every scene that she's in.

What surprised me is how a movie that is REALLY this good is in limited release while a piece of crap like "Deliver Us From Evil" is in everything theater. The Wikipedia page for Snowpiercer says that the director and the distributor had a difference in what was cut from the movie and the distributor did limited release in retaliation. Now that it's popping up in the larger AMC theaters, I'm hoping it'll get a wider release.

So this morning, after sleeping in a LOT, I did a few odds and ends and managed to get out and get issue #14 of my comic printed. It's such a thrill holding a printed copy. I do wish I could do a mass printing, but it's just not cost effective.

Printed Comic (Issue #14)

If it's not an intrusive question, how much would it cost to pay you to have a copy printed?

I hadn't even heard of this movie and I love Tilda Swinton.

Not at all. Just to have color pages printed, one-sided, for a 25 page issue is roughly $15. If I had to have it bound, I'm sure it would be more.

It hasn't gotten wide attention for some reason. I think you'll enjoy it.

I think you've shot this idea down in the past because you seemed concerned (as I remember) that it would make a fun hobby into a dreary business, but you could try raising money for such a publication via Crowdsourcing (with original artwork as incentives for different contributions). And I'm sure there are now digital publishers that could give you a break for bulk orders — perhaps even for small runs of 25 or 50 copies.

It wouldn't hurt to explore potential options even if you decide not to go with them...

I'd easily pay $20 for a bound copy autographed by the artist:)

I just read about Snowpiercer for the first time a few days ago. It sounds like a good one. I doubt we'll venture to see it at the movies but will keep an eye out for it when it comes out on streaming.

I'd buy a printed copy too!!

I'm glad you saw that movie. I just saw it advertised here, but only at one of he art house theaters. That usually means that it's a good film!
