Oh how I hate to see a weekend end. I love sleeping in and Monday just feels so harsh when that alarm clock goes off. And this weekend was one of the best in a while.

Late Friday night, Steve ([livejournal.com profile] rootbeer1) came to town to hang out for the weekend before heading into Tennessee to see his mom. He arrived late, but we went to dinner so he could enjoy his first 3-way at Skyline Chili. I insisted he wear protection (aka a bib) before diving in.

We got up a bit late the next morning and drove down to Big Bone Lick State Park for a quick look-see and a souvenir tee-shirt.

We hit Skyline Chili again for lunch so he could try a "5-way" and a cheese coney. Afterward, we crashed at my house for a couple of hours before going to the movie theater. The Cincinnati MovieBears saw "Man of Steel. I think the overall feel was that the movie was GREAT and Henry Cavill is quite the burly Superman! YUM!

It was a big turn out with 19 bears in attendance, our second largest after the 25 that showed for "Hairspray" some years back. Regrettably, it's too large a group to find a restaurant to serve all of us, so dinner was "on your own." I fear my decision to do that might have irritated some, but I didn't see a good way around it.

A group of us, including Derek ([livejournal.com profile] _decibel_), Chris ([livejournal.com profile] kybigstew), and Brian ([livejournal.com profile] cincycub), went to the Italianfest at the Levee and snacked around. Afterward, a few of us went to the bar and had a beer followed by a trip through Goettafest in Covington. Steve and I ended the night with a slice of pizza at Godfathers before crashing back home. Needless to say, my diet was blown to pieces on Saturday, but it was a great day. :)

Steve headed to TN the next morning and I did laundry, called Mom, etc. I do hate to see a fun weekend end.

that does sound like an awesome weekend. I wanted to see Man of Steel but opted for This is the End instead. Maybe next week for MoS.

If I ever make it out your way I definitely want to get out to Big Bone Lick and get a t-shirt. Oh, and admire the scenery and trails too hahaha When I went to Ohio over Memorial Day I originally had planned on taking the whole week off, renting a car and doing a road trip to sort of bounce around the Ohio, Ky, WV area in addition to visiting Dave and Robert in CMH. Unfortunately work scheduled something I couldn't miss the weeks before and after so I just stuck with a long weekend in Columbus instead. One of these days I still want to do that though. You could tour guide me to Big Bone Lick if I make it! :)

Steve had a great time with you all, and it was a happy beginning to what will be a stressful week for him. Thanks for taking care of my bear, and please come visit us in Palm Springs as soon as you can!!

a souvenir tee-shirt

This being the 21st century, you can (of course) order shirts and such from the park's web site. No need to trek all that way for those of us who are travel-challenged. I especially liked this image (though I doubt the Big Lick web site designer understood the humor of it):
