Sometimes it just happens. Steve and I were visiting some married straight friends years ago, and we went out to dinner. They were rather devout Catholics, and while they accepted us, the conversation turned to how unfair it was that we could choose a relationship that had no chance of producing children, while they desperately wanted a child yet could not conceive. Everyone ended up crying. I can only imagine what the other diners thought, but I remember the wait staff keeping their distance.
