Drag Race Conclusions (Spoiler Tag Used)
May. 1st, 2012 07:39 amLast night was the conclusion of this season's "RuPaul's Drag Race." Overall, I was very impressed with the show, being done in an auditorium stage versus the usual set. It was good to see all the queens again, hear the bitchiness in some parts, etc. We got to find out why Willam got booted... finally. And one of my favorite parts was seeing the families of the top three. As much as I despise Phi Phi, his mom is adorable (and looks really young!!) I'll put my individual comments behind the spoiler tag below to save those of you who haven't seen the finale yet:
I'm really liking that spoiler function here. Happy Tuesday all.
- Opening number was wonderful. Sharon Needles dress was a designed to look like a mug of beer! FANTASTIC!
- The first three queens gone, I hate to say that I barely remember you when they interviewed you.
- Jiggly! She needs to stop sucking on those lollipops because her teeth are in dire need of fillings. And I could see that from my couch without close-ups of her.
- Willam broke the rules by having a secret conjugal visit by her BF. If the others had to go without during that time, I can see why they'd be pissed off.
- Phi Phi caught hell from Chad, Willam, and (appropriately) Jiggly for her backstabbing and sabotaging behavior. She really is unbecoming of the title "Next Drag Superstar" in my opinion. If she couldn't do it by talent alone, she shouldn't have been in the competition. However, it wouldn't be a show without Jiggly crying about something.
- Miss Congeniality = Latrice Royale who got a standing ovation and deserved every clap. She's going to be on Drag U this June. Can't wait.
- America's Next Drag Superstar = Sharon Needles. Best. Decision. Ever. I feel sad for Chad because if he'd won, I'd have been okay with that too. Phi Phi lost, I'm very happy about that! :)

Date: 2012-05-01 01:36 pm (UTC)Willam stole the show.
"Here. Have a sticker. It's scented."
"Really?"
"Yes. It smells like a sticker."
I laughed so hard and long I had to go back on the DVR to see if I'd missed anything.
I thought Phi Phi would protest more about getting the villain edit this season but someone must have told her the contrition act would help earn her some forgiveness or something.

Date: 2012-05-01 02:40 pm (UTC)And Willam was FUNNY! I agree.
Phi Phi certainly didn't defend herself much, which was surprising considering how fast she usually goes on the defensive. I'm glad they brought out how she screwed Jiggly on that last challenge. Let's face it, Jiggly would probably have been out soon anyway, there was no reason to sabotage her. And the end result only made Phi Phi look bad.
The Queen is dead! Long live the Queen!
Date: 2012-05-01 03:01 pm (UTC)But the Best Moment had to be Willam's "subliminal" cough of "BULLSHIT!" to Phi Phi's declaration of love to everyone.

I also don't know how RuPaul's empire works. Have past winners or contestants gone on to do things?
The Willam Controversy never ends...
Date: 2012-05-01 03:48 pm (UTC)EW: Well, he told everyone he got “banged out” by his boyfriend every night, who was in the hotel, basically.
SHARON: So that’s the story that she’s going with? I see. Well, that’s disappointing. Um..."
Re: The Queen is dead! Long live the Queen!
Date: 2012-05-01 04:31 pm (UTC)They have in some ways. From what I can tell, actually winning the competition means you headline the annual drag race tour. However, usually the runner-up queen and the other top 5 or so end up in commercials on Logo for Absolut Vodka or on Ru's other show "Drag U" as professors. Some have done acting on other TV shows, Pandora Boxx was on a sitcom a few weeks ago for a brief moment. I suspect that some get agents.
Most winners are on Drag U for one episode or so, including Tyra Sanchez who was one of the worst choices for winner ever. Most of the queens eliminated early in the competition don't pop up too often.

Date: 2012-05-01 04:47 pm (UTC)Again, my ignorance of the show's procedures would lead me to think that conjugal visits are a rather lame excuse for kicking someone off the show. But Ru is apparently angered by leaks, and anyone "visiting" a contestant wouldn't be bound by the nondisclosure agreement. Even so, what's the big fucking deal? Sign up the boyfriend and let them fuck like bunnies.
But unless Willam has a sensitive gag reflex, the visits wouldn't explain the vomiting incident, would it?
Re: The Willam Controversy never ends...
Date: 2012-05-01 06:56 pm (UTC)I think they also could see the partners as potential "helpers," as some of the ladies had hubby's who could design and sew, and that would give unfair advantages over we poor single people.
I suspect there was more too it than just Willam having his BF show up for sex. And as for the barfing... who knows ;)

I wish they had asked if Michael's lover had designed the Inauguration Ball gown. That slayed.
