AFter I graduated from West Virginia University in 1981 with a degree in Broadcasting Journalism, I spend another six months in Morgantown, working as a dishwasher at a local restaurant, while sending out audition tapes and resumes. And in January of 1982 I got a call from a guy who said he was taking over a little radio station in Grafton, WV (about half an hour south of Morgantown), and that he had heard through the grapevine that I was looking for a job in news reporting, so would I be interested in being his new news director? And before I knew it, I was stuffing all my personal possessions into my 1979 AMC Spirit and moving to Grafton. I found a drafty little apartment with no furniture, and all I had was a foam matress to sleep on, plus a little clock radio to listen to, and little else. I worked my way up from there.
This reminds me of my OWN start as a working adult.
