  • Yesterday I took off a bit early to head home to work on my toilet. The handle and lever were rusted almost to nothing and I had to replace them both and the flapper. Anything involving plumbing or electricity annoys and concerns me, so I was prepared for a battle. After buying the necessary parts at Home Depot (yes, soooo cute... ), I came home and had it fixed in less than 15 minutes. When things go this easy, I immediately assume I did something wrong, but it all works. It went so quickly I didn't even have time to consider a photo essay of it like last time.

  • With the funeral and my catching a cold over the last couple of weeks, I've not been to the gym hardly at all. I went Monday, but need to get back into the swing of it. I do miss running in warm weather though.

  • Now that the third issue of the comic is posted, I'm in a drawing downtime. I do need to work on my Christmas card design soon.

  • I've been listening to the audio book of David Sedaris' "Holidays on Ice" the last few days in the car. It puts me in a strangely festive mood.

  • So what do you listen to in the car? Do you listen to audiobooks? What is going on in your mid-week universe??

When I had a car, I would mostly listen to NPR, either on WBUR or WGBH. 'BUR was all talk, 'GBH had various forms of music at certain times of the day/days of the week. My understanding is that it has gone to all talk, cancelling my favourite Blues show, so I listen only to 'BUR now. Of course, I don't have a car anymore, so it's rather moot.

Anything involving plumbing or electricity annoys and concerns me, so I was prepared for a battle. This is why I either live in an apartment or have a new house. I have to pay for repairs.

In the car? MPR (Minnesota Public Radio) ... No to audio books ... Mid-week universe? I had a gig on Monday, an industrial ... had a completely over the top crazy day at the apartment community, putting out fires ... Shaking my head at the stupidity of voters ... fortunately, the craziest of tea party candidates failed miserably.

Hope you've recovered from your cold!

HUGS!

We listened to "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" on a road trip to Savannah, Ga a few years back. Driving at 2 AM through an epic storm during the spooky parts was better than any haunted house I have been in.
And, we listen to David S as we do the yearly Holiday Circle Tour of HELL. The one year, while he was doing his Billie Holiday imitation while singing a Christmas carol, I almost drove off the road I was laughing so hard. Oh sure, I had read that segment and giggled, but to hear him do it. Funny as hell.

I usually just listen to the radio or CDs. I would much rather read a book than have someone else reading it to me. I'd feel like I was cheating somehow!!

I really should check out audiobooks, tho it would prolly be for the gym workout for me since my commute is like 10 minutes. I'd never finish a book if I tried listening on my way to work every day LOL

We listen to NPR and CBC in the house so I tend to listen to audio books and podcasts in the car. With audio books either something from the science/"management" non-fiction shelves (stuff like Daniel Pink's Drive, Dan Arielly's Predictably Irrational, etc. It is easier to find psychology audio books than most of the other fields) or sci-fi/fantasy audio books (Adams, Gaiman, DeLint, and Pratchett are fun and I will always try out a radio dramatization from BBC or ZBS).

Podcasts I would recommend: RadioLab, Clarkesworld, Drabblecast, Escape Pod, The Moth, Norman Centuries, Pod Castle, The Quest of Life, Star Ship Sofa, Studio 360, and 12 Byzantine Rulers. I have really enjoyed Abigail Hilton's serials The Prophet of Panimandorah and The Guild of the Cowrie Catchers

Love the old pics of the previous toilet repair!!!

I love "Holidays on Ice"

I listen to music CDs in the car. Once in awhile, I'll turn on the radio.

I listen to a whole bunch of stuff in the car - in the mornings I like a silly FM station to get me in a giggly mood for the day. Otherwise, it's either my iPod (Ting Tings is currently the band du jour) or one of our hundreds of 1980's compilations :D
