Why not just have a brief self-reading period and have the presenter there to answer questions?

Do they face the screen while they read them? That's even worse.

And of course, YOU would read the handouts on your own, but how many of the others attending would bother? ;-)

Why don't they teach that to students in college? It's not that hard to train people on HOW to do a presentation.

When I do these things I use the Arial font, I only list bullet points and I never read the slides (except for quotes).

I assume they will have surveys so that you can voice your frustration?

Oh, they're either reading it from the screen in front of them or from printed handouts in their hands.

And I could read them far faster than they're presenting them.

In giving the presentations, I get the impression they are giving someone else's presentation in some cases. However, we've had these presentations on CD for a long time, so I'm sure even they could have given it better.

And I also do the bullets and discuss unless they need specific directions for something later.

I have done that when I have not fully prepared for a lecture. I die a little inside when I do it but try at the very least to talk "off slide" when I don't need the script.

I have done some presentations like that, but I usually *try* to elaborate around the key points when I can so it doesn't look like I'm reading from it.

Gee, maybe I oughta give up my efforts to learn Power Point.
I'm reminded of a New Yorker cartoon from a few years ago: Senior Devil in the Personnel Dept of Hell is interviewing a younger devil-job applicant. Senior Devil leans back in his chair and presses his fingertips together... "Um, do you know Power Point ?"

Actually I think Powerpoint is a very cool tool to use. It's the presentation of it that seems to catch some people.

And that cartoon sounds fantastic. And accurate!
