As much as I love traveling, I think I enjoy coming home more. I miss my house, my bed, my pets, etc. It's been a long, busy week, but a good week too, as I got to see my family every night. Sadly, I didn't get to update my journal or really respond to anyone else's because of my brother's temperamental computer. So, here is the day-by-day catch-up...

Tuesday
Well, I made a journal entry on Tuesday, the worst day of this past week thanks to my lead foot. Moving on....

Wednesday
My busiest day because of lots of moving around and driving around. Still work went well. I ran into more than one nice burly bear-type guy that day... woof! My twin bought me the 3rd season of "Family Guy," which I love, for our birthday. My brother and I that night did a lot of unintentional reminiscing about our old neighborhood. The characters of our childhood were surprisingly odd. Here are a few for example.

Granny Cress, the fragile old woman who chewed tobacco that stained the corners of her mouth, always tried to give us a kiss. Imagine 5-yr old boys running in terror, but she loved it.

Louise, the neighborhood drunk who was often passed out on my mom's couch, always reeked of alcohol, but was a nice lady overall. My mom never had the heart to kick her out. I recall her passed out in the yard between our houses and recall her getting the crotch of her pants tangled in our garden fence once. It probably explained my early aversion to alcohol.

Miss Herron was the old cat-lady of the neighborhood. She had a face like a wrinkled old apple, white frizzy hair, and was missing her right arm at the shoulder. She looked menacing, but was a real sweetheart, especially with her multiple cats. I never did get an accurate count of them, but I liked playing with them. I never asked her what happened to her arm. I guess even as a curious kid, it didn't seem important.

Charlotte and Kono, a Hawaiian sister and brother, who were at least 10 years older than me, but lived with a neighbor while they went to school here. Kono was a nice muscular guy and his sister was a very buxom. With their dark hair and dark complexion, I always thought they were so good looking. I have no idea where they are now.

Gillis Mayne stored his enormous tractor in a small garage across the street. He was a tall, lanky man who used to let me and my brother ride on his tractor as he was just backing it up into the garage. It was a thrill and a half for a four year old.

Lastly, Belle Turner, the meanest woman I have ever met, absolutely hated children, unless she needed you to do something for her. The image of her sitting on her front porch, shaking her cane at me as I rode my bike down the street is burned into my memory forever. I learned my first curse words from her and saw my first naked breast (don't ask, ever!). Needless to say it was down next to her ankle at the time. She was ancient when I was a kid and from what I had heard, she had always been mean.

Sadly, most of the above are now deceased. My neighborhood was made up mostly of elderly people. More than a few stories made me smile that night.

Thursday
I was in Columbia, KY, which is 20 miles west of the East Standard Time line. Spent the day looking at my watch only to remind myself what time it really was. It was a long, busy day and I spent most of the night packing to go home. Thankfully, I did catch "Tru Calling." Does anyone else find the bearded Davis character attractive, or am I just strange?

Today
Another day in another time zone. Still I finished at lunch time and made the long haul back to Cincinnati. Had an email back at the office that I have some computer training to put together in the near future. I was very excited to pull into my drive and get inside to relax. The power had apparently gone off and reset my cable station, so the VCR didn't tape "Smallville" or "Angel." Damn! Not planning much for the weekend, but sleep and be lazy. I love three-day weekends.
