kybearfuzz: (Movie Buff)

I've been home sick this week, darn sinus infections. In reading some posts, I realized I forgot to post a movie review from last Friday.

After work on Friday, I grabbed a matinee of My Bloody Valentine in 3D. Ten years after a vicious killing spree by a local miner, a young man returns to his hometown to sell the local mine after his father passes away. His former girlfriend is now married to the town sheriff and the general public there don't want him back in town. A series of killings begin to happen and people wonder if the local miner who committed the killings before has also returned.

As a big fan of the original, I was worried the remake would be deplorable as a lot of remakes of popular horror movies have been. This one did not disappoint me as I thought it was great! The 3D aspect was fun, but the story was actually well put together, the acting was good, and the writers incorporated enough of the original version to satisfy me and put enough originality into it to let it stand alone.

I went out and bought the special edition of the original film. Wonderfully creepy and low-budget, the special edition adds back additional scenes cut for the American version in 1981 (the original is Canadian). Because it was deemed too gory, the scenes were removed to get an "R" rating. And that's exactly what the extra scenes are, the close ups and filling scenes for some killings. The extra features are good too as they have some commentary from the original actors, who have aged well I think.

Did I Enjoy the Movie? original -- yes, remake -- yes
Would I Watch It Again? original -- yes, remake -- yes
Buy the DVD? original -- already have, remake -- yes

DEFINITELY want to see this ... partly because it's getting pretty good reviews for a movie of this genre, and partly because I've never seen a 3-D film before!

I'm so glad you enjoyed this. Now I assume you saw the 3-D version, right? The theater I went to was showing it with 3-D glasses and without. I, of course, saw it with the 3-D glasses and did not realize until later that it cost $2.50 more to see it in 3-D. We were walking by the customer service and this customer was screaming at them.

Isn't that the weirdest thing?

Anyways, it was totally fun and I'm glad I saw it. I thought there was a really cute bear in the original.

I'm sorry you're feeling poorly... My offer of noodles still stands, somehow though!

But the scary movies? You're on your own for that!
