I agree with you on both The Orphanage and Cloverfield. As for the latter, it was recommended that I sit as far AWAY from the screen as possible, and I must say it helped me enjoy the movie a lot more.
I didn't see either of the Alien v. Predator movies (although I enjoyed both Alien and Predator). I know they were based on graphic novels, which begs the question: What is Alien CANON? The last Alien movie, Resurrection, had a spacecraft (presumably infested with the "xenomorphs") plummeting toward Earth. What are we to make of this? How do they tie all the plotlines and mythos together? Ah, the perils of modern franchise moviemaking.
