After breakfast and a gym visit, I decided to head up to West Chester in Northern Cincinnati to catch a couple of the Horrorfest flicks and ended up watching all of the ones being aired (three of them) today.

The Deaths of Ian Stone was probably the best of the three. A man is killed by a mysterious phantom and wakes up at the same time in a different life, but with the same name. When the memory of his past lives surface, the phantoms return and kill him again, only to have him awaken again and be pursued yet again. It reminds me almost of the Donny Troy/Dark Angel storyline from DC Comics. It has TV series potential in my mind.

Borderland is about three college grads who head to the US/Mexico border to celebrate before being off to graduate school. One of the three turn up missing after being kidnapped by a cult who believes that blood sacrifices makes their drug dealings invisible to the authorities. The other two guys try hard to find their buddy before he's killed. The jerky camera motion gave me a headache. The only bright spot was Sean Astin as a redneck with facial scruff. He's just smoking hot in this movie.

Unearthed is a standard monster movie. An archeologist releases a historic monster at a Western Indian reservation. A group of strangers get marooned together trying to survive the attack of this creature. It was enjoyable, but as most of the guys around me was pointing out during the credits, it had some serious plotholes.

My eyes hurt from all that viewing. I'm not sure any of the three would be worth buying, but they'd make great rentals. I think only one more looks worthwhile, the one called Mulberry St. I may go see it tomorrow.

It's called "The Mist" and it comes out in a couple of weeks. I remember reading the short story/novella years ago and thinking how creepy it was. I'm looking forward to it.
