Disturbia and Vacancy
Apr. 20th, 2007 04:52 amJust a quick update on a couple of movies I've seen. I'll post something more substantial later.

Looking out the rear window in Disturbia
Shia LeBeouf stars in Disturbia as a grief-stricken, law-breaking student who is put under house arrest for 90 days. Bored senseless being stuck in the house, he pursues the hobby of watching his neighbors' daily routines. When one of his neighbors seems to fit the pattern of a serial killer on the news, he begins to investigate with the help of his friends. The movie does a decent job building tension as the housebound student gets deeper and deeper into his neighbor's business leading up to some dangerous situations. Overall, the movie was pretty decent.

Trapped in a crappy motel in Vacancy
In my travels, I swear I've stayed in rooms as crappy as the one in Vacancy. A buddy of mine got free passes to a sneak preview of the flick at the Levee last night. Luke Wilson (who is the underrated and better looking brother of Owen) and Kate Beckinsale (who I barely recognized without the tight leather outfits) star as a bickering, divorcing couple who end up at a Bates Motel of sorts in the middle of nowhere after their car breaks down. As the couple settles in for the night, a video tape left in the room lets them know the room has been used for making snuff films. As similar events begin to happen to them, they realize they are being filmed and watched, they try to make their way to safety and escape the motel killers.
The film is pretty original I think with some truly creepy moments and surprises. The writing is a bit hokey in the beginning, but levels out later. I personally like Luke Wilson and Kate Beckinsale and I think they do a nice job in the movie. I did feel that the movie ran a bit short, like there should have been more towards the end.
Did I enjoy the movies? Yes, I liked both of them.
Would I watch them again? Probably Vacancy again.
Buy the DVD's? Probably Vacancy
