There is nothing like sitting next to a nervous person afraid of flying... especially if he's cute.

The flight was only about an hour or so, but the guy sitting next to me was a nervous sort -- fidgetting, reading magazines quickly, and looking at his watch. Finally about a half hour into the flight I asked him if he was okay. His name is Matthew, his about my age and build, and he's developed a fear of flying. The flight wasn't the best, lots of rough air and clouds, which seemed to only make Matthew more nervous as he whispered "Oh Geez" to himself several times. I felt sorry for him. I kept talking to him, trying to get him to keep his mind off his watch and the window seat in which he sat. As he kept looking out the window with a view of the wing, I wanted to say, "if you see a Gremlin out there, you let me know..." In his current state, I figured this might be a bit tasteless.

We landed. He thanked me for keeping him occupied. I feel sorry for him when he has to fly home.

Oh, and I also saw two Ohio University students while I was waiting for the Metro. She was hugging his waist while he rubbed her nipples through her shirt. No joke. Ugh.. straight people should get a room. :D

there were other means at your disposal to "distract" him...

but they may get you arrested.

You're lucky you weren't sitting next to me.

Once on a flight from NY to Raleigh I had to sit next to a little kid who's dad put him on the plane @ LGA. It was on one of those scary embraer baby jets. We hit a nasty storm midway and It got VERY rough and I tried to calm him down a bit... Trying to be upbeat and matter of fact. I said, "This is like a rollercoaster!" etc. The storm got worst, people were audibly gasping, (including me) things were flying about the cabin-- and by the time it calmed down some, that lil' kid was patting me on the back and telling me it wasn't so bad and not to cry.
