Halloween II
Aug. 29th, 2009 12:59 amAfter an accidental nap, I woke up and ate a late dinner and decided to hit an evening show of Halloween II.
On the way to the morgue, an accident happens and Michael Myers is on the loose again. One year later, poor Laurie Strode continues to have nightmares about her Halloween encounter with her serial killer sibling. Dr. Loomis is doing the book circuit with his latest release, which reveals a dark secret about Laurie (she's Michael's sister, but we all knew that). As Michael kills his way back to Haddonfield before Halloween, Laurie tries to put her life together only to have him arrive and start bumping off her friends.
I can't say I hated the movie or was even bored with it, but I think the movie missed the mark. The great thing about the original Halloween movies was the tension it could build before the attack. This movie doesn't seem to have that tension, it just is one murder after another. I think Rob Zombie was trying to add a psychological twist to the story, albeit unsuccessfully. Michael sees his mother as a white-gowned spectre that he follows, giving Rob's wife Sheri Moon Zombie something to do in the movie besides appearing in flashbacks.
Still, the acting is fairly good, despite a weak story. Brad Dourif plays the sheriff and even Bill Fagerbakke (from "Coach") plays a tall, burly deputy. If you plan to see it, I'd recommend a matinee or waiting for a rental. I don't see me watching it again and I'll skip the DVD purchase.
