When a wicked stepmother wants to prevent her stepson from meeting and marrying a princess so she will not lose her throne, she pushes the young woman he's fallen for down a magic well that transports her from a cartoonish fairy tale land to a very real NYC. While the misplaced princess-to-be finds her way through NYC, she meets up with a NY attorney and his young daughter who take her in while she waits for her prince to find her. When the prince comes to the real world to find her, the wicked stepmother/witch takes further steps to prevent their getting together.
I liked the juxtaposition of the cartoon fairy tale world and the real one. The prince and princess are so sickeningly sweet and stereotypical, it's intentionally funny. I love the chipmunk who travels with the prince. One he becomes real, he finds he cannot speak to humans anymore and the charades he has to do to get his point across are great. The story is very cute, predictable, but cute, and I like the ending. There is no extra scene at the end if you go to see it.
Did I enjoy the movie? I did.
Would I see it again? I think so.
Buy the DVD? I might.
