Yarn throwing with my nephew
The Twin and the Nephew

Just to note, the photo is crooked, not the house.

While visiting Mom yesterday, the twin and my nephew Bradyn stopped by. I'm still amazed how well behaved for the most part my nephew can be. Considering the wild hellion my twin was as a kid, it just seems like he's getting off too easy in the kid department. My sister is envious, not that her's was that bad.

To keep Bradyn occupied, Mom and Joe grabbed her balls of yarn and were throwing them about her place. I managed to snap a few photos, but I liked this one best as Bradyn is about to nail me with the red one.

Later that night, I went over to Joe's house to see him and Bradyn again. It seems that the twin's young'un (hey, I'm in Corbin again... in the holler...) hasn't quite figured out that throwing soft things and hard things aren't the same. He got in a bit of trouble throwing his giant Leggo blocks at the dog.

It's fun to watch the twin learning to be a parent along with his son learning not to throw hard objects.

The Mist

kybearfuzz: (Movie Buff)
Today was a sort of baby sitting day for me. My sister and brother-in-law had to work today, so the soon-to-be 12-year-old nephew (not the one previous pictured) and I spent the day together. In one of my more questionable pseudo-parenting decisions, I took him to see Stephen King's The Mist this afternoon. After hearing the movies he's watched, I figured he could handle it (and I got his mom's okay).

I read the story years ago. The story is a man and his son who head to the grocery store after a huge storm wrecks a chunk of the town. As a creepy mist envelopes the town, creatures begin attacking trapping everyone in the store with a religious zealot who begins to take over. There is some gore and reasonable special effects. The real horror is how one religious nut can easily overtake the minds of normally rational people. I think this was way over the nephew's head, but that's okay. The ending I thought was kind of stupid. It wasn't in the original story.

The ending actually became a running joke with my nephew and me. We've worn it out most of the afternoon. I'd love to tell it here, but it would give the ending away.

Did I enjoy the movie? It was a bit slow in some parts, but it was good.
See it again? If a crew were going maybe...
Buy the DVD? Nah....
