Softball and Playing Gracefully
Jul. 30th, 2007 11:47 pmThe Titans played Rosie's/Messeners tonight, the all female (and lesbian) team. While we won the game tonight, like 12 to 5 or something like that, I can't honestly say it was my best game. I didn't get on base once, though I had a couple of beautiful hits to the outfield (both caught).
My most graceful play of the evening was my first hit. I ran like mad for first as usual, but somehow my feet got tangled up and I took a tumble towards first base. Literally going head over heels and landing on first base. I looked up at the first baseman who asked if I was okay and asked "well.. was I safe?"
"Almost," she said with a laugh.
Covered in dirt and that white powder used to mark the baseline, I trudged back with many bodily bruises and scratches to the dugout where my teammates got a good laugh as long as I wasn't hurt. I figure if I can't be good, I can at least be entertaining. While it is cool to come home with a dirty jersey, those who take a close look will realize that the dirty skid is on my back, which is not how most people slide into any base. It does raise other possibilities though.. and no, I didn't get that lucky :D
I will be so sore tomorrow...
