A traveling student in trouble in Hostel II
After a rather vindicating day at the office (a story for another day), I drove to the Levee to catch a matinee of Hostel II.
The movie begins where the last one left off, finding out what has happened to the survivor who had escaped. We then switch to a trio of art students studying in Rome who decide to take a weekend abroad. On the trip they run into several people who orchestrate their induction into the paid-for-kill world we saw in the first Hostel. There is an awesome twist at the end and the usual gore you'd expect.
Overall, the movie was pretty good. I felt the story was pretty interesting as we're seeing it from both the kidnapped people and from the perspective of how they are selected, who picks them, and how the killers get excited about the impending kill. The gore wasn't as excessive as I expected, but still gross enough. In fact, the freakiest part was seeing Heather Matarazzo's naked breasts... ewww... (okay, small spoiler there). You do get to see some shirtless Stanislav Ianevski, the musclecub Krum from the Harry Potter flicks, which helps balance it out.
Did I enjoy the movie? Yeah.
Would I see it again? Eh, not sure.
Buy the DVD? Nah, I don't see it as something I'd own, I don't own the first one.
