kybearfuzz: (Movie Buff)
I am home from DC, having had a great time and a good weekend. I'm back to work which is rough in so many ways, the lethargic feel of trying to get reacclimated to the office is draining. However, in the last couple of days, I did make it to the movies.

The Hills Have Eyes 2
The National Guard roams the tunnels in the The Hills Have Eyes 2

The Hills Have Eyes 2 on Saturday was a nice surprise. Most horror remakes of late have been horrible (no pun intended, but if the shoe fits...). This one of course is the sequel to a remake (or could it be a remake of the sequel?). Anyway, my expectations were low. It was actually pretty good. When a team of National Guardsmen go to deliver equipment to a research group in the area where the Carter family was butchered, they find a deserted camp and one by one get attacked by the local mutant family. The movie is gory in some parts, but really creepy in others, the latter of which I enjoy more. The plot was good, the acting was credible, and I loved some of the fight scenes. It really was more of an action flick than a scary movie.

I think he's trying to lay an egg
Jon Heder has come a long way from Napoleon Dynamite.. or has he?

Blades of Glorywas a guilty pleasure of mine. I left work early today to go see it. Yeah, I'm a dork.

The movie centers around two vastly different mens figure skaters who end up fighting after a competition and getting thrown out of individual figure skating permanently. After the two find themselves in dead end jobs, a loophole provided by one of their stalker fans leads them to join up under the pairs category. The movie is laced with so much uncomfortable positioning of the two males skaters that it is hilarious. I literally was busting out laughing at some parts and so were the few other souls in the theater with me. The ending is a bit over the top, but I have to admire Will Ferrell (of whom I am generally not a fan) and Jon Heder. I can't imagine it was easy to wear get ups like the above and stay in character.

Did I enjoy the movie(s)? Yes to both.
Would I see it again? Probably for Hills 2, definitely for Blades
Buy the DVD? Not sure for Hills 2, leaning towards yes for Blades
